25% of the people with diabetes in UK undiagnosed
Barely a week passes by without a news item that brings worrying statistics about the spread of diabetes around the world. Just two weeks ago, we reported that over two million people in the UK have been diagnosed with diabetes. A latest report says that a quarter of the people with diabetes in the UK have not been diagnosed. The report is the result of a massive audit on diabetes care conducted by Health and Social Care Information Centre on behalf of the Healthcare Commission. The data was collected on more than 250,000 people in England from primary care trusts, 1,700 GP practices and 47 hospital trusts. Another alarming statistic is almost half of women with diabetes have not been diagnosed.
