Abnormal waist-hip ratio and diabetes
Abnormal waist-hip ratio could cause diabetes, according to a research paper published in American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists: ‘Diabetes Mellitus Endocrine Practice: 2005′ by an Indian Doctor, Sandeep Kumar Mathur. The waist and hip measurement difference can be a maximum of 0.9 inches, in both male and female. The study was performed on 102 men and 54 women between 45 and 80 years of age. The subjects were assessed for phenotypic traits of insulin resistance by determination of body mass
index, waist-to-hip ratio and fasting free fatty acid level. Abnormal waist-hip ratio could also cause heart ailments, if obesity is not controlled. Regular exercise can help in maintaining the waist-hip ratio.
