Diabetes rate higher among the American Latinos
A recent market study reveals that Diabetes is more prevalent among the U.S latinos than the general population. 2.2 million latinos are affected by diabetes, which constitutues 16% of the people affected with diabetes in the U.S. Compared to the general U.S population, the latinos are less educated, younger and less affluent and eat less healthier food. The study also found differences even within the latino community - diabetes patients who speak both English and Spanish are not as proactive as those who speak only English in taking care of themselves. Nearly half of the patients get diabetes related information from television and 20% from the radio. The study was conducted last year, by GfK Market Measures.
These studies help in deciding the most effective mode of communication to spread awareness of the disease.
