Ectasy, LSD, magic mushrooms and Cannabis aids diabetic’s ailments?

by Kendra James, RN on March 22nd, 2008

Ecstasy, LSD, magic mushrooms and Cannabis… could they one day be legal prescriptions used to fight such diseases as diabetes? This all sounds crazy, huh? Researchers in the US and Europe are hoping that this is possible and that new types of science will prove it.

The cannabis-based medicine Sativex uses fewer psychoactive cannabinoids and is licensed in Canada as an under-the-tongue analgesic spray for patients suffering from multiple sclerosis and advanced cancer. It is also available in Spain and the UK on a case-by-case basis. Researchers are investigating the drug as a potential treatment for conditions such as glaucoma, obesity and diabetes, and as an agent against addiction and hypertension, as revealed recently by scientists at the University of Nottingham.

This comeback has been underway for over a decade at this point. If you remember, back in the 50’s and 60’s these same drugs were used as a magic bullet for all ailments- that is until they became abused and the five leaved plant became associated with tie-dye and recreational ‘fun times’.

Who is to say at some reduced concentration some of these natural medications might not help people that suffer from MS, migraines, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and diabetes. What do you think? Do you feel it possible or that more abuse would stem from it?
