Good news for fat, diabetic mice

According to a report in the journal Diabetes, Japanese researchers have found that colestimide, a resin that binds and eliminates bile acids, appears to provide an effective treatment for obesity and type 2 diabetes, at least in mice.

Researchers from the Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, Suita, and from Kinki University School of Medicine, Osaka and their colleagues found that colestimide prevented dietary obesity and high blood glucose levels in mice with a disease similar to type 2 diabetes.

“Since dyslipidemia in patients with type 2 diabetes leads to high mortality, this research provides a message on the beneficial effect of this kind of drug,” said Dr. Misato Kobayashi and Dr. Hiroshi Ikegami.

(How cool would it be to have a sweatshirt from Kinki University? Someone should send me one, because in my heart, I am twelve.)

I’m sure you could get one made without too much trouble. I would totally send you one, but I am very, very poor indeed.

Oh my goodness, look at that poor, squishy little mouse. Well, big mouse, I guess. I’m glad they’re doing the research, but I think I might avoid the pictures. :/
