I Need Your Opinion On Glucometers!
Which glucometer do you use? Have you tried more than one or do you have the attitude that if it’s not broke, don’t fix it?
Just curious because I think that mine is acting up.
I really think that this could be why the results that are being registered are off. I changed the battery, but it is still acting funny. And the thing is, I think I know how I feel when I am high or low, and it just doesn’t consistently correlate. Who knows? Maybe it is me being goofy, but something is off!
I think I am going to buy a new one and I was curious to know your thoughts. Tell me which you prefer, or which you don’t! Are there any glucometers that are handy dandy or really fun to use, haha?

Currently I’m using the OneTouch Ultra because of my Dexcom CGM.
But I’d strongly recommend the WaveSense KeyNote from AgaMatrix. You can see this working on YouTube at: http://youtube.com/watch?v=JqNYEyWHDHI.
I also still love the FreeStyle meters. But for lancets I recommend the BD Ultra-fine 33’s (http://www.bddiabetes.com/us/main.aspx?cat=2&id=613), they are truly almost pain-free.

I am currenly using the Wavesense Keynote meter and have been for the past 3 months. I used to be on BD Logic since I am on a Minimed pump but got frusterated with the Logic. I have been very happy with my new meter. It has new technology that allows it to be more accurate. The Keynote is very small and comes in a mini case that easily fits into any purse. It requires a small amount of blood and gives a result within 4 seconds. Additionally it uses 33 gauge lancets so testing is super painless.

Over 9 years ago, I was given an Accu-Chek “Advantage” meter & have aquired two more for free from various offers. Just basic tester with 100 memory slots.
The Advantage with the “Comfort Curve” strips gives test results in “plasma” numbers which can be directly compared with lab numbers.
I always take one of my “Advantages” with me when I go to the Dr or have blood work done so I can check it’s accuracy.
My advantages have always tested within 3-5mg/dl of the reference test, so are far more accurate than their specifications would imply.
The Advantage is not the fastest at about 40 seconds, but I put accuracy more important than speed.
I would still be using my old original Advantage but I introduced it to a concrete floor & now I have a “Advantage kit” that I’ll reassemble someday when time permits!
Haven’t had one fail electrically yet.
There are many meters out there with lots of whistles & bells, but I choose to stick with something simple/basic that I’ve proven works long-term.

I have been monitoring my glucose level for over a year now and was quite leary about the readings I was getting from my Accu Check Compact. I received a Bionime Rightest GM300 and have used it now for a little over 2 weeks, I have found it a pleasure to use and have a lot more confidence in the test results. The cost is very reasonable and the test strips are half the price of others. I would recomend going to http://www.bionime.com and find out about the new technology which is being used.
As a side note, look for the new WaveSense Jazz that will be coming out later this year. Check out the AgaMatrix site at http://www.agamatrix.com

I know my grandmother’s old meter eventually started to give her skewed readings, and she could tell that the way she was feeling didn’t go with what her meter was telling her. i believe she got the OneTouch Ultra, and sh hasn’t had any problems since. I think these things can, like most things, just get a little weary in their old age. ;)
