Lead Generative Therapy trial set to begin

by Maruthi on September 12th, 2005

E1-I.N.T.(TM) is a therapy which tries to regenerate insulin producing cells of the body, called islet cells.  Transition Therapeutics Inc, the company behind this therapy is set to begin a study to test the effectivess of it.  If successful, it could replace daily insulin injections.  This therapy is based on the discovery that it is possible to regenerate insulin producing cells in the body by injecting naturally occuring peptides.  A total of 30 type 2 diabetes patients will be enrolled in the study, twenty of whom will receive daily treatments of
E1-I.N.T.(TM) and ten patients will receive placebo for 28 days.  It will be followed by six months post treatment where the patients will be monitored for the production of islet cells.  The patent for the technology platform is held by Transition and has been licensed to Novo Nordisk.  The results of the study is expected to be available by the last quarter of this year.
