Magnesium helps reduce diabetes risk
Two new studies have found that magnesium reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Taking plant-based diet rich in magnesium, like nuts and whole grains may be beneficial in the long term in preventing diabetes. The first study involved 85,000 female nurses and 42,000 male health care professionals, whose diet was followed for 18 and 12 years respectively. More than 39,000 women were involved in the second study. They were followed for 6 years. In both the studies, it was found that people who included more magnesium in their diet were less likely to develop type 2 diabetes. The results of the study appear in the January issue of Diabetes Care.
