Moderate amount of alcohol helps in reducing diabetes risk
According to a new study, drinking in moderate levels helps in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes in older women. The study was conducted on 16,300 women between the age of 49 and 70, for an average of 6.2 years. It was observed that women who take moderate amounts of alcohol had a lesser chance of developing type 2 diabetes. There have been studies before on the association between alcohol consumption and diabetes, but those studies concentrated more on men. The results of the study appear in the journal Diabetes Care.

In your article entitled “Moderate amount of alcohol helps in reducing diabetes risk,” you state that drinking in moderate levels helps in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes in older women. How do you define “moderate amounts” of alcohol? What kinds of alcohol are you talking about? Does it matter if the woman drinks wine as opposed to hard liquor or beer? For some reason, the results of your study do not make sense, given the high sugar content of some alcoholic beverages.
From a different perspective, if your findings are valid, they add credibility for the concept of “moderation” in most things.
