New England company honored for diabetes innovation

A Massachusetts company has been honored with the 2006 New England Innovation Award for its work in developing a state-of-the-art insulin delivery system.
The Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE) chose the Insulet Corporation from among 172 nominees for its development and manufacture of the OmniPod Insulin Management System, a device that combines compact, lightweight materials with wireless technology to create a two-part system for the safe, reliable monitoring of blood sugar and subcutaneous infusion of insulin.
SBANE President Bob Baker visited the Insulet facility and also talked to people with diabetes as they learned more about the device. “It was amazing to see their enthusiasm and anticipation about the value of the OmniPod System and impact it will have on the quality of their lives,” he said.
Insulet Corporation is located in Bedford, Massachusetts and is dedicated to finding ways to improve the lives of diabetics, particularly in the area of Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion (CSII) therapy, through the use of innovative design and technology.

Ooh, Rob, OmniPod is the coolest! By now, the whole OC knows I’m chomping at the bit for one. I visited the company recently, too. If you’re interested, see http://www.diabetesmine.com/2006/03/visit_to_insule.html .
