Obvious, Redundant, In Your Face Diabetic Research From Me To You

by Kendra James, RN on August 28th, 2007

I have to do it this morning. I have been fighting the urge for over 2 weeks now. Every morning as I wade through all the new and updated diabetes information, I come across the most obvious, ridiculous almost “slap in your face” kind of findings. So I am going to share a few with you this very fine morning. Now don’t laugh too hard! To think that our tax dollars and private investors fund such research is mind blowing…

Staying active — getting regular physical exercise, helps prevent and control diabetes, advises a U.S. expert.

Researchers have found new evidence that soft drinks sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) may contribute to the development of diabetes, particularly in children. In a laboratory study of commonly consumed carbonated beverages, the scientists found that drinks containing the syrup had high levels of reactive compounds that have been shown by others to have the potential to trigger cell and tissue damage that could cause the disease, which is at epidemic levels.

And finally…

Severely obese patients who undergo gastric bypass surgery significantly reduce their risk of death from coronary heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, according to research published in the Aug. 23, 2007, issue of The New England Journal of Medicine. The study was led by a team of researchers from the University of Utah School of Medicine and LDS Hospital.

Oh my goodness is all I am going to add. Let me know what you think. Do you see this as redundant and elementary or is it me being a “sour puss”? Now, now, be kind!
