Poverty and diabetes
What exactly is the relation between poverty and diabetes? Diabetes seems to affect people in poor areas more than those in the affluent areas. This observation has been made in Georgia. Basically, poverty gives rise to a chain of problems in poor areas. Poverty is often associated with low education which means that poor people are more likely to be ignorant of the dangers of the disease. Also they tend to eat high calorie, junk food and exercise less. They also do not possess the necessary knowledge about nutrition and do not visit doctors as often as they should. It has been noted that counties with lower median income in Georgia have higher rates of diabetes hospitalization than the counties with average or higher median income levels.

Poor people are more likely to get and die from just about every disease known to humankind. Its not their eating habits, literacy, or lifestyle choices. It is their POVERTY and exposure to adverse living conditions.

People living in lower socioeconomic conditons are more vulnerable to attarct more diseases and die prematurally. I believe that this is really bad for the society and humanity, because we are letting this happen to our own brothers and sisters.
