Praying to heal a diabetic child… devastating results

by Kendra James, RN on March 29th, 2008

I saw the below article this morning on Comcast online and was so upset by it. I know that everyone has their own beliefs and ways of dealing with illness, but to me this is inexcusable. I apologize in advance if I said anything that offends anyone.

Madeline Neumann, 11, died Sunday at the Weston home of an undiagnosed but treatable form of diabetes as her parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann, prayed for her to get better. Her mother said she never expected her daughter, whom she called Kara, to die. The family believes in the Bible, which says healing comes from God, Leilani Neumann said.

So sad. I just can not understand, I would go to the ends of the earth to seek treatment for my children, but as I said above I know that we are all different. I really have no other words about this…

I saw a little something about this earlier. How very sad for everyone involved. I hope the family is dealing as best they can during this time :(

I too was very upset when I read this story. I believe in the power of prayer & do pray when someone is ill, hurt, or in harms way. If we have the medical know how to treat or even cure someone’s illness, then I will not hesitate to seek medical treatment, AND pray for the person’s (child or adult) recovery.
