Research Should Examine The Quality Of A Diabetics Life When Studying Medications
I personally think that this little tidbit of research is a good one. Now follow closely because the wording gets tricky. This research shows that research says that clinical trials on diabetic drugs should concentrate more on how the drug will affect the patients quality of life and daily living. Whew… that was wordy.
And I agree whole-heartedly. I feel that sometimes “researchers” concentrate on only the chemical mechanism or physiological response to a drug, which is not all their fault. That is after all what they are trained to do but…
“The medical community should insist that we invest the resources needed to do trials that ascertain the effect of interventions on patient-important outcomes,” the authors state. “This policy will prevent the premature dissemination of therapies that ultimately prove harmful, facilitate patients’ participation in decision making, and speed the day when we can confidently offer safe treatments that can provide important benefit to patients with diabetes.”
As I mentioned above scientists are trained to be exactly that, so they are not concerned with what happens to you on a Thursday afternoon when your kidney’s decide to stop metabolizing a medication and retain all the chemical make up. They are concerned with what happened to the mice and rats in the lab and how the diagrams appeared to work out in a positive fashion.
Please, I beg you, if you are a scientist do not take this the wrong way! I appreciate all that you do and give you credit when credit is due but I had to write about this after reading the article and study. What do you think about all this? Do you agree that research jumps the gun every once and a while? Do you think that things should be examined a bit closer before giving the okay to millions of diabetics? Let me know!
