Rising diabetes rates lead to better skin care
The steady rise in the number of diabetics worldwide is leading to increased demand for products that treat the dry skin conditions often associated with the disease. 41 million Americans are estimated to have impaired glucose tolerance, a pre-diabetic condition which often results in dry, itchy skin.
Dry skin conditions in diabetics can lead to more serious skin problems, resulting in rashes and cracked skin, often resulting in hard-to-treat infections.
The National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Disease (NIDDK) recommends that patients who suffer from these skin conditions should drink lots of water, eat a healthy and balanced diet, and maintain a moisturizing skin care routine.
As the diabetic population grows, the number of specialty products targeting diabetics is also expected to increase.
