Simple Test For Genes That Link To Type 2 Diabetes
As I have mentioned previous, more and more research is connecting genes to type 2 diabetes.
Today, as MSNBC reports, thanks to the Associated Press, a new study — one of the largest yet — reveals that scientists studying more than 32,000 people in five countries found clusters of new gene variants that raise the risk of Type 2 diabetes.
deCode Genetics, the biotech company responsible for offering a new test to determine the predisposition of type 2 diabetics, contacted me last week. I am going to sample their test, for free! That is a big Yee ha!
The test will cost approximately $500, but many are viewing it as a look into the future. A kick in the ol’ bum bum, if you will.
My fear is that a negative test would give some people a false sense of security. Would they be more likely to throw caution to the wind?
Which brings us back to the same message I raise here over and over again. Genetic susceptibility or not, you still need to take care of yourself. Cut out or cut back on those culprit carbs, exercise regularly and try to relax. All of those activities can give you a more happy, healthy life.
I will keep you all posted on my testing experience and results. Biotechnology is sooo exciting!
