Smoking increases diabetes risk

by Maruthi on September 26th, 2005

This is a warning signal to all smokers.   According to a study, smoking increases diabetes risk by as much as three times.  It is a known fact that diabetes and smoking can lead to serious health Cigarette_3 complications like heart diseases, but this study focussed on whether smoking itself can cause diabetes.  It is also found that women who live alone,  smoke more, eat less nutritional meals are twice likely to develop diabetes than those who live with other adults and children.  The study also found that 25 percent of the smokers developed diabetes after 5 years, while only 14 percent of non smokers developed diabetes in the same period.  It has also been proved that cigarettes contain poisonous substances like cadmium which has been shown to be associated with diabetes.  The results of the study appear in the October issue of Diabetes care.

Yes smoking does lead to diabetes as this is indirectly connected to stress.Increase in stress leads to increase in cholestorol and sugar levels . My sister too had immense stress and she suddenly developed diabetes strangely enough, which she nor my family has it. Stress needs to be controlled and we must keep our mind peaceful and calm as this wil help keep all our problems at bay.Do check thisfor more info and interesting articles related to health and its diseases etc.
