Diabetes Notes

Their bacon is really just ham, though.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I saw it, too. The American Journal of Public Health is reporting that U.S. residents are 42 percent more likely to have diabetes than those smug Canadians. It’s like that study showing the English are healthier than us, too. Countries with socialized medicine have healthier citizens than us? Imagine that.

I’m not even going to get into the details of this, because when I first found out that I had diabetes, I got a bunch of rude and slightly whacked out emails from someone who berated me for my unhealthy lifestyle and the diabetes that I so richly deserved before going off about her favorite medical guru, a doctor who had a 100% cure rate for diabetics. One hundred percent! If you can’t cure your diabetes with his miracle diet, then you’re just not trying hard enough, you fat stupid American.

What was my point? Oh, yeah. My email buddy was Canadian. She kind of ruined it for the rest of you fine folks. Sorry. I was going to actually post something real here until I remembered those emails. Now I’m just grumpy.

Anyway, if you’re interested in how much healthier and smarter the Canadians are than us, then go read it. If you’re a Canadian and you don’t have diabetes, bully for you.

There is hard evidence of the genetic links of diabetes. I think that individuals with family histories of the disease should try and stave off Type II diabetes and gestational diabetes if they can. Asians and Polynesians are more vulnerable than some other races, so conservative communities who tend to marry within their inherited races, have to be more careful than others. Diabetes is not always and entirely preventable, so please do not take umbrage if your fellow citizens are more prone to diabetes than your northern neighbors.
