Tissue research for the treatment of diabetes wounds
An ambitious project is being undertaken in Europe to make tissue engineering using stem cells viable, clinically and commercially. The project is worth $32 million and is funded by European Union. 23 leading companies and research centers from 13 countries in Europe are participating in the project. It aims to produce skin, bone and cartilage through tissue engineering technologies for the treatment of diabetic wounds and many other conditions. The participating organizations will work on a wide range of problems in parallel, to speed up the process of producing tissue. It is believed that testing of new treatments will be possible in four years.
