Whole Grains Play An Important Role In Ones Diet To Combat Diabetes
So it is official, whole grain’s are important in keeping diabetes at bay. It seems that all we here lately is low carbohydrate, no white foods and don’t eat bread in order to control your blood sugar. But did you ever stop and think that your ever so tasty whole grain pasta’s and bread’s could be good for you. Yee ha!
A new study out of German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbruecke, Nuthetal, concluded that…
“… The evidence from our study and previous studies, summarized by means of meta-analysis, strongly supports that higher cereal fiber and magnesium intake may decrease diabetes risk,” the authors conclude. “Whole-grain foods are therefore important in diabetes prevention.”
Personally, I think that the best advice is everything in moderation. Whole grains are just as important as your fruits and veggies.
Eating more fiber overall or from fruits and vegetables was not associated with diabetes risk
The only foreseeable problem with this study being released is that now there will plenty of patients, most of diabetic, with uncontrolled blood sugars claiming that, “they said that fruits and veggies weren’t good for me and that bread was the way to go”.
Bottom line… know what works for you and stick with it. Introduce some whole grains here and there, experiment, if your blood sugars become inconsistent, get rid of the grains.
