Would Children Benefit From An Exercise Log?
Okay, so here ends the first full week of November and Diabetes Awareness Month! Have you come across anything that has been helpful. Do you have any good links or events to let other diabetics know about?
I have been talking, talking and talking at work, at school, at the grocery store, at swim practice and anywhere else you can imagine about the prevalence of diabetes and the risks associated with the ol’ disease. And boy do I get some eye rolls but I honestly don’t give a hoot. I think that this is an important subject and feel the need to share. I also think that we really need to start nutrition and “pre-diabetes” education in the schools at young ages. I’m not opinionated at all, haha.
Another thought… do any of your children have a reading log? You know, a log that they record the amount of minutes that they have read through out the day. Mine do and they are so proud at the end of the month when they see that big number. Last month my eldest, 1st grade, had 700 minutes and received a certificate for a free personal pizza (that was a big deal to her, she is only 7!).
Getting back on topic, I think there should be an exercise log of sorts. A chart that the children can record the amount of time they rode their bikes, their skateboard, went to soccer or swim practice, played in the yard or walked the dog. Heck, it could even be a simple stroll with mom and dad after dinner. What do you think about that idea? Do you think it would make a difference in our children’s level of physical activity?
I can see the perks as well as what opposition might offer up as negatives, but I think all in all it would benefit our youth. Let me know your opinion. Do you have something like this in place? So many questions…
